12. Wonton BBQ Pork Noodle Soup - Wonton Soup For The Soul

6 on the dot and it's busy! Not bad for early evening opening night. I had a terrible, irrational fear that the menu would change and I would have to start over. Not the case - thank goodness! The familiar sizzle and clang of woks fills the air. My mammoth meal arrives momentarily. Damn it's huge! Maybe I should not have ordered a side of beans (Number 85). No, there is always room for beans.

The soup is a mild, consommé-like broth. Subtle flavours, and would benefit greatly from the addition of chilli oil, but then again what wouldn't? Six pieces of BBQ pork. They are soup-moistened and succulent. Good things come in sixes it seems - there are six pieces of tender bok choy and six large wontons. The pork mince filling is a little on the tough side and could use a little more seasoning but are still rather tasty. They slurp down a treat. A wonton breaks free of my chopsticks - an escape artist! Next, the noodles. A titanic tangle of perfectly al dente egg noodles, needle-thin.
I make a valiant effort but have to concede defeat with half of my numerous noodles remaining. Maybe this heat is diminishing my appetite...

Would I order this dish again? Maybe, on a cold winter's day or if I was feeling under the weather and craving milder flavours. Though I do prefer the duck soup with its amazing housemade rice noodles. Still, it is hard to go wrong with wontons.

Picture menu done and dusted! Up next: BBQ and more BBQ, and more BBQ...
