19. Crispy Pork on Rice - Crunching on Crackling
Ah Crispy Pork: the last of the BBQ meats. I have been putting this visit off a bit as I am not a huge fan of pork. It's easily my least favourite meat, but today I am starving. I would probably eat a human foot. But only if it was deep fried... It's not super busy today, perhaps because of the rain. My meal arrives super fast. Masses of meat - a steal at only $13.50.
The bok choy is its usual superlative self. I accidentally drop some on the floor and observe a moment of silence for my fallen friend. I have not been to KC for over a week and my chopsticks skills are a little rusty. Onto the pork. The explosive crunch of crackling. Superb! The meat is, well, porky. I find pork to be fatty and a bit bland but this is quite tasty. Perhaps a testament to my humongous hunger. Another piece is devoured, and another and another. Chinese tea (only $3.50 for a massive pot) cut through the ample fat. A mouthful of rice, tinted caramel by the meat juices. I have reached the 2/3rds mark and am beginning to grow bored. I nibble at the crackling and, uncharacteristically, abandon the remaining meat. There is still bountiful rice to sate my hunger. I finish my meal a little hastily (I am late for work!), slurp down scalding tea and make a hasty exit off to another day, another dollar.
Would I order it again? No. This, and the Char Kwey Teow are my two least favourite KC meals so far. But this is based on highly subjective personal preference. I don't like pork. But if you do, you will probably love this meal. Up next: numerous noodles await!
